Spirometry is the 'gold standard' for the lung function assessment, diagnosis, and follow-up of a variety of respiratory diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary emphysema, and interstitial lung disease. This course is intended to let the participants gain increasing competency and skills in practicing high quality spirometry. Upon the completion of the whole programme, participants will be granted with European Spirometry Driving Licence (ESDL).
European Respiratory Society (ERS), through the HERMES project (Harmonise Education in Respiratory Medicine for European Specialists) suggests initiatives - such as the ESDL - in order to optimize and disseminate the current knowledge and application of the spirometry examination.
The course will consist of two modules. The first module will adopt a more theoretical approach, while the second will be more practical-oriented, ending with an individual assessment. In between an on-line test as well as a work-book has to be performed.
